INTRODUCTION
The Biomedical Engineering Department is an interdisciplinary academic department in the College of Engineering that offers a Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering, including an Honors Degree option.
Biomedical engineering applies fundamental engineering principles to the study of biology, medicine, behavior, and health. The aim of our undergraduate program is to provide students with the training necessary to bridge the gaps between medicine, engineering, and biomedical research and design. We provide a broad background in applying principles from chemical, mechanical, materials science, and electrical engineering as well as mathematical modeling and physiology.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
The Biomedical Engineering Program prepares our graduating students for the following professional and career accomplishments:
- Professional employment in biomedical industries such as medical devices, imaging, biotechnology, biopharma, and other health and science related fields.
- Entry into and completion of advanced studies, including graduate programs in biomedical engineering or related engineering, science, medicine, law, business, or other professional programs.
- Making positive, ethical, and socially responsible impacts to the biomedical field through technical, educational, civic, and/or business contributions to our local and global communities.
TECHNICAL ELECTIVES
Technical electives in the program are designed to give students specialized experience in focus areas of biomedical engineering such as applied biomaterials, multiscale biomechanics, computational biomedical engineering and biosystems, or bioinstrumentation, bioimaging, & bioelectrical. These technical electives provide students an opportunity to develop both technical depth and breadth.
