Hospitality Business Management
The degree prepares students for careers that include managing and/or owning restaurants, hotels and other hospitality businesses such as event planning, country clubs, casinos, food-service operations, and resorts. Students benefit from experience driven learning in our two learning labs on campus; the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel and our student-managed Vita Nova gourmet restaurant. The major requires 300 hours of paid industry experience outside of the classroom.
Students in the Hospitality Business Management and Hospitality Industry Management majors have the opportunity to participate in a 4+1 MBA program. With careful planning, academically eligible students can complete both their undergraduate degree and the MBA degree in five years of academic study.
Hospitality Industry Management
The degree prepares students for careers in hospitality consulting, real estate development, and corporate services. This customizable degree emphasizes developing analytical skills for decision making in a variety of hospitality business environments. Students identify a customized focus area that provides a set of core competencies in their area of interest. Examples of focus areas include revenue management, real estate development, e-commerce, service marketing, and sustainability management.
Students are required to complete a minimum of 15 credits (five courses) in a well-defined focus area. A specific course plan for the fulfillment of the focus area requirement must be established during the freshman or sophomore year and must be approved by the HSIM advisor. Additionally, the program requires 400 hours of paid industry experience outside of the classroom.
