Finance

Professional education in finance serves to develop the capabilities of students so that they may assume positions of leadership and responsibility at all levels of financial management in our society. The undergraduate degree program in Finance reflects the growing demand for greater financial management capability in banking and in the financial services related industries.

Financial Planning & Wealth Management

The major in Financial Planning and Wealth Management serves the needs of students preparing to enter this exciting and growing field. Financial planning has been ranked in recent years as one of the ten best career choices, and employment opportunities are projected to expand rapidly in the coming years. Prospective employers include financial planning firms as well as other companies that provide related products and services such as banks, insurance companies, and brokerage firms.

The Certified Financial Planning (CFP) Board has accredited the Lerner College’s financial planning and wealth management program. Individuals who wish to take the CFP Exam must first complete a series of educational requirements. Graduates of the financial planning and wealth management major at UD will have satisfied the CFP education requirement. This means that our graduates can sit for the CFP Exam immediately after graduation.

Only one of the five required upper-level courses in Finance may be taken at another AACSB-accredited institution unless advance permission is granted.

Trust Management Minor

The minor in trust management encompasses legal, tax, accounting, investment and financial topics pertaining to managing trusts.  Students will learn how to build and maintain relationships with trust clients and corporate partners in the field of high net-worth planning.  Students will also learn strategies for efficient intergenerational transfer of wealth and achieving clients’ personal estate planning, philanthropic and financial goals.
