The Theatre Department offers three distinct minors all designed to deepen the student’s appreciation of the theatre as an art form within the context of a liberal arts education. Coursework in all minors provides students with a foundation for theatre appreciation, focusing on the art and craft of theatre making. The Theatre Department also provides the University with a variety of general education courses in theatre designed to expand appreciation of, and future participation in, theatre. Students interested in performance opportunities should contact one of the amateur theatre groups on campus: E-52 or Harrington Theatre Arts Company.”

THEATRE PERFORMANCE MINOR

The Theatre Performance Minor is designed for those students who are interested in learning about the performance areas of the theatre - acting, voice, speech, movement, and other related subjects - and who desire the opportunity to explore these areas through the prescribed coursework of a minor.

THEATRE PRODUCTION MINOR

The Theatre Production Minor is designed for those students who are interested in learning about the production areas of the theatre - scenery, lighting, properties, sound, costuming, stage management, and other related subjects - and who desire the opportunity to explore these areas through the prescribed course work of a minor.

THEATRE STUDIES MINOR

The Theatre Studies Minor is designed for those students who are interested in a variety of areas of the theatre - performance, production, history, directing, and other related subjects - and who desire the opportunity to explore these areas through the prescribed course work of a minor.

Healthcare Theatre (HT) is a unique interprofessional educational (IPE) program created by the School of Nursing and the Department of Theatre in the Fall of 2009 here at the University of Delaware. It has grown into a unique collaboration between the College of Health Sciences and the Department of Theatre here in the College of Arts & Sciences. HT is open to all University of Delaware students. HT now has three permanent courses that meet every fall and spring:

HLTH/THEA 215-010 HEALTHCARE THEATRE COMMUNICATIONS started in 2012.

THEA/HLTH 314-010 ADVANCED HEALTHCARE THEATRE COMMUNICATION started in 2021.

HLTH/THEA 316 HEALTHCARE THEATRE INTERNSHIP started in 2022.

Our new HEALTHCARE THEATRE minor will also make its debut in the Fall of 2022.

HEALTHCARE THEATRE (HT) trains students to be patients, family members, and other providers to be used in highly realistic simulated scenarios to train future and current health care providers in safe health care encounters

Healthcare Theatre’s mission statement: HEALTHCARE THEATRE combines the science of health care with the art of communication by creating live, standardized scenarios, empowering all participants to grow both personally and professionally.
