Bachelor of Science - Health Sciences

This interdepartmental program provides a broad-based degree for students interested in a health-related career in any number of settings within the health services arena. Foundation courses from the sciences, humanities, and social sciences are combined with courses from departments in the College of Health Sciences. Students in the Health Sciences major select an existing University minor, as part of the major, in order to meet individual personal and career objectives and interests.

Bachelor of Science - Health Sciences Occupational Therapy Track Concentration

This program is a cooperative agreement between University of Delaware and Jefferson College of Health Professions of Thomas Jefferson University (TJU). Students can earn both the Bachelor of Science (BS) and the Master of Science (MS) degrees in five and a half years. Students will spend the first three years at University of Delaware and then proceed to Jefferson College of Health Professions for the final two and a half years of graduate Occupational Therapy coursework. The BS in Health Sciences from University of Delaware will be awarded after successful completion of the first year at Jefferson College of Health Professions and transfer of appropriate credits to reach the 120 credit minimum for the BS degree. The MS in Occupational Therapy degree from Thomas Jefferson University will be awarded after successful completion of the final year at Jefferson College of Health Professions.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION:

There are two paths for admission: 1) students who enter the program as freshmen, or 2) current UD students in other majors who enter the program at the end of their freshman year.

ADMISSION PROCESS FOR FRESHMAN APPLICANTS:

Designate the BS/MS Occupational Therapy option as your choice of major.
Your essay or personal statement should discuss your interest in occupational therapy.
Selected candidates will be invited to the Thomas Jefferson University campus for a personal interview in late January or early February.

ADMISSION PROCESS FOR CURRENT UNIVERSITY OF DELAWARE STUDENTS:

Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or higher.
Have earned a maximum of 30 credits hours (not including AP credits) by the end of the first year at UD. Those with more than 30 credits may be evaluated on an individual basis.
Submit a Jefferson College of Health Professions application for admission with an unofficial transcript and academic letter of recommendation from a designated University of Delaware representative.

ADMISSION DECISIONS:

Admissions decisions are made by the University of Delaware and Thomas Jefferson Joint Admissions Committee. An average of five freshman applicants will be selected for admission per year.

ARTICULATED CURRICULUM:

Students in this program will follow a specific three-year curricular track at University of Delaware that will include the prerequisite coursework needed to transfer into the entry-level Master’s in Occupational Therapy (EMOT) program at Jefferson.
Credits earned during the first year at Jefferson will be counted toward the completion of University of Delaware B.S. degree in Health Sciences.
Students who have completed the articulated University of Delaware curriculum, have a cumulative grade point average of at least a 3.0, and have earned at least a “C” in all prerequisite coursework, may transfer into the EMOT portion of the program at Thomas Jefferson University.
