CHEG 664 - Bioprocess Engineering in Practice

BIOPROCESS ENGR IN PRACTICE

This course will provide an overview of the major technical and regulatory issues encountered in bioprocess engineering in industrial practice, with particular emphasis on protein therapeutics such as monoclonal antibodies. The course will emphasize cell culture aspects but will also include coverage of purification and formulation. A significant part of the course will be devoted to case studies of industry challenges, in which students will work in groups to troubleshoot and develop experimental plans to resolve examples of processing problems using material covered in lectures or explored in the literature. The course will include a site visit to a biopharmaceutical commercial manufacturing facility and a pilot plant.
