WOMS 416 - Dante: The Divine Comedy and the Medieval World Credit(s): 3 DANTE: DIVINE COMEDY Dante’s masterpiece, The Divine Comedy, offers an encyclopedic window onto the medieval world. Read selections from Inferno, Purgatory, and Paradise that bring into focus the history and culture of Dante’s age. Readings and discussion touch on areas including historical and politcal context, influence of non-Christian civilizations on Dante’s thought, medieval views on politics and family, and the role and depiction of women.
