ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINRNG PROCESS

Introduction to principles and methods to quantitatively analyze contaminant behavior in natural and engineered systems. Establish material and energy balance approach to process analysis. Review concept of chemical equilibrium, using acid-base reactions and air-water partitioning as examples. Discussion of time-dependent behavior such as pollutant degradation in “reactors”. Physical, chemical, and biological processes and concepts relevant to environmental engineering introduced through in-class examples and homework problems.
